What You Will Be Doing
- Analyze GIS data and prepare reports for assigned departments
- Review and ensure accuracy of mapping and related data from personnel or consultants
- Design and modify GIS programming to meet user needs
- Verify accuracy and quality of digitized data
- Develop and design GIS databases and mapping layers
- Perform GIS data maintenance, entry, conversion, and analysis
- Assist in solving technical problems and determining solutions
- Create, maintain, and update digital maps, spreadsheets, and data files
- Gather information from various sources
- Respond to GIS and mapping requests from employees
- Coordinate GIS functions with other departments, agencies, engineers, developers, and the public
- Provide GIS support and address related concerns
- Collaborate with IT personnel for optimal GIS infrastructure performance
- Develop and document procedures for GIS functionalities
- Prepare protocols and provide training for GIS users
- Participate in emergency preparedness planning and implementation
- Provide GIS information and training for emergency situations
- Monitor GIS database performance and troubleshoot issues
- Read and interpret civil plans and extract data for GIS utility systems
- Use GIS to analyze data for engineering and planning purposes
- Prepare maps, graphics, charts, and other materials for reports and presentations
- Participate in City committees to support GIS planning and implementation
- Work with departments and agencies to develop and maintain a city-wide address database
- Assist in policy and procedure development
- Oversee policy implementation and enforcement
- Perform other related duties as assigned
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in geographic information systems, computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of three years of professional experience in the operation and application of geographic information systems (GIS).
- Valid California driver’s license required at the time of appointment.
- Proficiency in English for clear communication with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
- Availability to work outside standard business hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
- Knowledge of GIS principles, methodologies, and computer operating systems.
- Experience with ESRI-based GIS software and related applications.
- Familiarity with records management and data handling procedures.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to design and execute sequential task processing and conduct spatial analysis.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve GIS database application issues.
- Provide training and guidance to GIS users on database access and usage.
- Research geographic data sources, collect and interpret information, and integrate data for mapping and reporting.
- Generate reports and maintain organized records and documentation.
Nice to Have
- Proficiency in advanced research, analysis, and management techniques for GIS applications and databases.
- Capability to independently conduct professional GIS management, analysis, and database-related tasks.
- Skill in developing written protocols for complex GIS system and database operations.
- GIS certification from an accredited institution.
- Expertise in one or more programming languages, including SQL, Python, or Arcade.
