What You Will Be Doing


  • Leads the team overseeing the management of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for various City departments, including police, fire, and public works
  • Responsibilities include customized mapping, GIS data integration, system administration, and technical support
  • Manages GIS projects, ensuring alignment with city-wide strategic goals
  • Conducts advanced spatial data analysis and produces customized maps for different departments
  • Oversees database management, implementing quality control measures for data accuracy
  • Evaluates and integrates new GIS technologies, staying updated on industry trends to enhance city operations
  • Identifies deficiencies and recommends changes to improve productivity, enforcing organization standards for quality service
  • Resolves issues promptly, exceeding IT Team performance targets
  • Develops and manages the department’s budget, tracking expenses for cost-effectiveness
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and manages vendor relationships to ensure high-quality services
  • Fosters a collaborative and innovative team culture, valuing diverse perspectives and encouraging continuous improvement


What You Will Need


  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Possess over 5 years of GIS experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Demonstrate project management skills, overseeing GIS projects with expertise in planning and coordination.
  • Show proficiency in GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS and database management systems.
  • Exhibit capabilities in spatial analysis, cartography, and data visualization.
  • Have knowledge of GPS, remote sensing, and various data collection methods.
  • Understand web GIS and mobile application development within the GIS context.
  • Display leadership skills with proven ability to lead and mentor a GIS team.
  • Communicate effectively and possess strong interpersonal skills for collaboration across departments.
  • Show experience in stakeholder engagement and communication.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and conduct GIS training programs.
  • Participate in policy and standards development for GIS usage.
  • Hold a valid California driver’s license.
  • Fluent in English communication.
  • Pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph exam.


Nice to Have


  • Hold a Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • Possess expertise in migrating from Google Workspace to MS365.
  • Demonstrate experience in formulating and executing enterprise data strategies.
  • Show proficiency in organizing and leading an architecture governance board.
  • Have familiarity with AI technologies, tools, and methodologies.
  • Possess knowledge of geospatial analytics.
  • Hold professional certifications such as TOGAF, PMBOK, ITIL, COBIT, Agile/Scrum, and Lean Six Sigma.
  • Bring experience in local government or public safety, particularly in police and fire services.
