Principal Backend Ruby Engineer (Remote) – 4097 Remote
Come join this remote Series C opportunity and build solutions for a cutting edge high-scale IoT platform serving hundreds of thousands (soon to be millions) of users. This is a great opportunity to combine software challenges at scale with a unique hardware/IoT/Video product.
What You Will Be Doing
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams to design, construct, and enhance the APIs and services that power our products.
- Take charge of large-scale projects from idea to launch with a customer-centric mindset.
- Guide a team of 3-4 engineers who specialize in Ruby on Rails development, ensuring that their work aligns with our standards.
- Develop efficient, reusable, reliable, and testable code.
- Identify bottlenecks and bugs, create solutions, and propose optimizations.
- Implement patterns and systems that enable independently deployable full-stack microservices at a level of granularity that is appropriate for team composition and business value.
- Maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
- Create new documentation and enhance existing documentation.
- Lead by example as a dedicated, passionate, and flexible technologist who is constantly seeking the best solution to a problem.
- Help define, document, evolve, and promote high engineering standards and best practices across various areas.
What You Will Need
- 6+ years of experience as a professional developer with a focus on Ruby on Rails.
- 2+ years of professional development experience with one or more additional programming languages.
- 2+ years of experience mentoring a team of engineers.
- Have a strong background in automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Have experience working in and promoting Agile environments.
- Possess a thorough understanding of testing, including when, what, and how to test.
- Have extensive experience in developing and maintaining APIs and integrating with third-party APIs.
- Have practical experience working in a distributed/cloud-based environment, such as Amazon EC2/ECS, Lambdas, No-SQL DB, or Azure, within a microservice architecture.
- Have experience using both MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills, which enable effective communication with both business and technical teams
Nice to Have
- Experience with a time series database technology
- Experience with development for IoT devices
- Familiarity within a Dockerized environment
- Demonstrate proficiency in overseeing the security of Linux, AWS, and Docker environments
