    Job Title:
    Systems Engineer

    Role Overview
    Join a mission-driven public-sector technology organization supporting a diverse community of more than 200,000 residents. This team maintains the core infrastructure behind essential services, public safety operations, and ongoing digital modernization efforts. As a Systems Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain enterprise-grade server, virtualization, and storage systems that ensure reliability, security, and continuity for high-impact citywide services. This is a hands-on role with real ownership across infrastructure architecture, long-term planning, and complex multi-site initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Architect, deploy, and maintain Windows Server environments and enterprise virtualization platforms
    • Administer Active Directory at an expert level, including GPO design, cleanup, replication, and restructuring
    • Oversee full lifecycle of physical and virtual servers using VMware and related tooling
    • Manage NAS/SAN storage systems including data integrity, expansion planning, and performance tuning
    • Redesign and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies for long-term resilience
    • Develop and maintain PowerShell automations for system optimization and repeatable operations
    • Lead OS and application patching workflows including compliance reporting
    • Manage certificate issuance, renewals, and security-related updates
    • Implement and tune system monitoring platforms for availability, performance, and alerting
    • Serve as Tier 3 escalation for infrastructure-level issues
    • Present updates, proposals, and project progress to technical leadership
    • Support ongoing modernization initiatives including Linux updates, virtualization improvements, and backup strategy redesign

    Education & Qualifications:

    • Expert-level Active Directory experience including architecture, design, GPO creation, and remediation
    • Deep experience with Windows Server and enterprise virtualization (VMware required)
    • Strong hands-on background with physical servers, storage systems, and lifecycle planning
    • Demonstrated success leading infrastructure projects with multiple stakeholders
    • Proven experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions
    • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation
    • Experience with SAN/NAS systems and storage networking protocols
    • Strong understanding of OS and application patching strategies
    • Solid communication skills with ability to present recommendations to leadership
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work styles in a dynamic environment
    • Experience with Linux administration (system updates, patching, scripting)
    • Ability to work onsite 5x/week

    Preferred Experience:

    • Background with MFA or identity-related security integrations
    • Horizon/VDI support or deployment experience
    • SFTP/FTP secure file transfer tools
    • IIS or Apache web server administration
    • Exposure to hybrid cloud environments (AWS or Azure)
    • Experience designing high-availability storage or server architectures
