Senior Network Engineer
Role Overview

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will serve as the lead-level technical owner across the full network stack. You will design, build, secure, and operate a complex network environment that spans data centers, municipal facilities, and multi-site connectivity. This is a hands-on role with real influence on long-term architecture, modernization initiatives, and team enablement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, deployment, and operations of firewalls, switches, wireless networks, and multi-site connectivity.
- Manage daily network operations including monitoring, troubleshooting, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Oversee physical infrastructure including cabling, racks, power distribution, and data center layouts.
- Coordinate ISP services, ensure stable connectivity, and resolve external carrier issues.
- Configure and maintain DNS, DHCP, and WINS services.
- Own patching and software maintenance for network hardware.
- Implement and optimize network monitoring, observability, and alerting tools.
- Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, diagrams, and standards.
- Partner closely with security teams to implement controls, authentication, and network protection mechanisms.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical leadership to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Drive modernization projects to improve scalability, reliability, and security across the environment.
- Plan and execute hardware and software lifecycle strategies from procurement through decommissioning.
Education and Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of full-stack networking experience across physical, switching, routing, firewalls, wireless, and network services.
- Background supporting mid-sized organizations with complex multi-domain responsibilities.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting abilities across firewalls, switches, wireless systems, and connectivity issues.
- Proficiency with DNS, DHCP, and WINS configuration.
- Experience with rack, power, and cable management in data centers.
- Skilled in ISP service management and multi-site connectivity.
- Understanding of network monitoring platforms and troubleshooting tooling.
- Strong change management discipline including documentation and runbook creation.
- Skill level equivalent to Cisco CCNP in Enterprise, Data Center, or Security tracks.
- Comfortable serving as a lead engineer responsible for design through production operations.
Preferred Experience:
- Designing and architecting full network infrastructure including firewalls, routing, wireless, and ISP configurations.
- Advanced power, rack design, and data center layout planning.
- Wireless design including coverage planning and site surveys.
- SD-WAN design and administration.
- Experience with zero-trust or micro-segmentation.
- Automation experience using Ansible, Python, or templating tools.
- Observability platforms including NetFlow, SNMP, Syslog pipelines, or packet capture analysis.
- Load balancers or reverse proxies such as F5, NGINX, or HAProxy.
- Disaster recovery and multi-site failover strategies.
- Relevant certifications including CCNP, CCIE written, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSE, or Meraki certifications.
- Prior public sector, education, or large campus network experience.
